Donald Trump vs The Rest! Is the G7 Summit divided on the Israel-Iran War and Russia Russia-Ukraine Conflict?

Narendra Modi’s participation in the 2025 G7 Summit in Canada marks a pivotal moment for India on the global stage. Following Operation Sindoor, Modi is engaging with top world leaders to address terrorism, energy security, and economic cooperation.

The 51st G7 Summit is taking place this year in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, at a time when global tensions are rising. The conference shows how the main powers are becoming less united, especially between Donald Trump, who is once again a powerful player in U.S. politics, and the other G7 leaders. This is seen in the rising tensions between Israel and Iran and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Modi’s Return to Canada: First Visit in a Decade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending his sixth G7 meeting in a row, and this is his first trip to Canada in ten years. The backdrop: India's brave military reaction to terrorism that crosses borders with Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK after the Pahalgam attacks in April.

Modi's plan: safety, new ideas, and strategic talks

At the summit, Modi's main goals are:

Global Security & Counterterrorism: Modi is likely to talk about India's counterterrorism framework and call for global action. He will also point out that his visit comes just after Operation Sindoor.

Tech and Energy Futures: Sessions will look at how AI, quantum technologies, and energy security are all connected. India wants to work with other countries in these areas.

Geopolitical Crises: Trump's desire for a more autonomous agenda is putting G7 unity to the test. India's impartial but active diplomacy makes Modi an important voice on the problems in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

India-Canada Relations: A Thaw in Diplomacy?

The meeting could also be a turning moment in the relationship between India and Canada. After the assassination of pro-Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023 and the resulting diplomatic crisis, relations got even worse. But the fact that Mark Carney is now Canada's Prime Minister instead of Justin Trudeau shows that they are ready to start over.

Synergies in the economy: Trade and More

India and Canada have a strong trading relationship. In 2024, they traded $8.6 billion in goods and $14.3 billion in services. The conference is a great time to boost commerce between the two countries again, since both economies are trying to protect themselves from U.S. tariffs. The trading basket is rising and includes a wide range of goods, from Canadian potash and lumber to Indian pharmaceuticals and machinery.

India's Growing Power in the World

India has been a frequent participant in G7 Outreach Sessions since 2019, which shows how important it is strategically. India is the fifth-largest economy in the world; therefore, its views on energy, technology, and global security are becoming more important. Canada is in charge of the G7's 50th anniversary, which gives India a chance to push for a multilateral, cooperative solution to the problems we face today.
