Earthquake of Magnitude 5.8 Hits Jakarta

Earthquake tremors have been felt once again in Indonesia. Tremors have been felt in the capital Jakarta and Main Island Java. Within 17 days, for the third time on Thursday, panic has been seen among the people regarding this.

The United States Geological Survey said that the intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 5.8 on the Richter scale, which is higher than the 5.6 magnitude earthquake that wreaked havoc in November last month.

According to the Geological Survey, so far no news of any loss of life or property has been received from this earthquake.

According to information, the epicenter of this 5.8-magnitude earthquake was 14 km northwest of Siranjang-Hilir in West Java province at a depth of 123.7 km. West Java is the same province where a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Cianjur on November 21, killing at least 334 people and injuring nearly 600 others. Skyscrapers shook for several seconds due to the earthquake in the capital Jakarta. During this people came out of the houses. Earlier on December 3, strong earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Indonesia’s Main Island Java, causing panic and people ran out of their homes and ran towards the road. Its intensity was measured at 5.7 on the Richter scale. Due to this earthquake, there was minor damage in some areas.

On November 21, the earthquake caused severe devastation

Even before this, on November 21, there was such a powerful earthquake in Indonesia, which took the lives of many people. On November 21, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake in West Java, Indonesia, killed 331 people, while more than 1000 people were injured. It was the worst earthquake in Indonesia since the 2018 earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi. About 4340 people were killed in the Sulawesi earthquake. Earthquakes are frequent in Indonesia, but it is unusual to feel them in Jakarta.

There was an earthquake in Sumatra province in February

The population of Indonesia is more than 270 million. This country is often affected by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. It is to be known that in February this year too, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit West Sumatra province, in which 25 people died and more than 460 were injured. In January 2021, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck West Sulawesi province, killing more than 100 people and injuring thousands. In 2004, a powerful earthquake and tsunami in the Indian Ocean killed nearly 230,000 people in a dozen countries, most of them in Indonesia.
