El Mencho: Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, who was popularly known as “El Mencho,” has been killed by the Mexican military.
The leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) was killed during a military operation in Tapalpa, Mexico. Cervantes was severely wounded during the military aid and succumbed to injuries while he was being transported to Mexico City.

The death of Mencho signifies the most significant win of the Mexican government in its quest to bring a much-awaited end to the anti-cartel campaign.
El Mencho was wounded and apprehended by the Mexican military in alliance with United States intelligence.
One of the most powerful and feared modern Mexico drug lords, El Mancho rose from acute rural poverty to lead a global criminal empire. After serving in the Mexico Police, El Mancho turned to organized crime. A bounty of US$15 million was placed on him by the United States of America.
Under his command, the CJNG built a powerful cartel that used to traffic cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine across different continents, especially into USA.
El Mencho Death-Violent Retaliation
Violent retaliation was experienced across different states of Mexico soon after the death of Mencho. Vehicles were set on fire by cartel members while highways were blocked, causing widespread panic among members of the general public.
Multiple casualties were reported by authorities with security personnel being killed by cartel gunmen in Zapopan, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Tapalpa. Several suspects have been arrested by the Mexican police while a significant number of troops were injured. Heavy weaponry including but not limited to rocket launchers and armoured vehicles were seized by the Mexican military, amid the unrest and chaos that followed the death of El Mencho.
Meanwhile, India has issued an advisory asked its nationals in Mexico to observe a high sense of care and diligence.
