Elon Musk on Twitter's "Official" Tag, Hours After Launch, "Just Killed It"

Elon Musk: The most recent change to Twitter, which added a "Official" badge to some verified accounts, disappeared as quickly as it had come.

As a result, there was a lot of misunderstanding, which the social media giant's "Complaint Hotline Operator" Elon Musk remarked, "Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months. We will keep what works and change what doesn't."

Elon Musk said after American YouTuber Marques Brownlee tweeted a tweet confirming the label's disappearance: "I just killed it … Blue check will be the great leveler."

Twitter's Official Badge

Twitter stated on Wednesday morning that when it debuts its new $8 service with the blue verification badge, it would add a 'Official' label to a select group of verified accounts, including significant media outlets and governments.

Esther Crawford, Twitter's early stage products executive, had tweeted that "Not all previously verified accounts will get the "Official" label and the label is not available for purchase. Accounts that will receive it include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures,"

Elon Musk, a billionaire, is maintaining his $8 charge for Twitter's coveted blue badge despite harsh criticism. Elon Musk recently tweeted, "Trash me all day, but it'll cost $8."
