Formation of Taliban government: Invitation to six countries including Pakistan, China, Turkey

After claiming occupation of all the provinces of Afghanistan, the Taliban have decided to form a government soon. In view of this, the organization has also sent invitations to China, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, Qatar and Turkey for the program of government formation. It is clear from the invitation of the Taliban that the governments of these countries have already contacted the organization. Significantly, China, Russia, Turkey and Pakistan have continued their work in their embassies as before. However, the Taliban has not had any official contact with India so far.

A day earlier, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid announced the suspension of government formation until next week. He said the Taliban was fighting to form a government that was inclusive and acceptable to the international community. The Taliban are expected to announce the formation of a new government in Kabul in the next few days, headed by the group’s co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

Earlier, the Afghan Taliban described China as its “most important partner” and said it expected China to rebuild Afghanistan and tap its rich copper reserves. War-torn Afghanistan is facing widespread hunger and fears of economic distress.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the group supports China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative that would connect China with Africa, Asia and Europe through a vast network of ports, railways, roads and industrial parks. The Mujahid also said that the Taliban also sees Russia as an important partner in the region and will maintain good relations with Russia.
