Former NATO general Petr Pavel becomes new President of Czech Republic

Former chairman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Military Committee, Petr Pavel, on Saturday became the new President of the Czech Republic. Petr Pavel defeated billionaire Andrej Babis in a run-off vote to replace his rival and controversial President Milos Zeman. Pavel received more than 58 percent of the vote, according to the statistics office.

After the victory, Pavel thanked the people and said that by voting you all respected democracy and cared for this country.

Pavel supported the countries that helped Ukraine

Pavel has been an outspoken supporter of the European Union and NATO, seeing the future of the Czech Republic as integral to their membership. Pavel has repeatedly expressed his support for countries that provided military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine during its conflict with Russia.
