Gilgit-Baltistan Turns To India? Pakistani Public Reacts and Question Development Priorities in Pakistan

Pakistan: There have been numerous protests in the Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan region following the arrest of a Shia cleric for blasphemy under Pakistan's toughened blasphemy laws. The demonstrations are said to be the largest that the region has ever witnessed, with "Chalo, chalo Kargil chalo" screams shredding the air. Local leaders in Gilgit alerted Pakistan's leadership to the possibility of a civil war, and some even advocated for the country to unite with India.

Arrest of Shia Cleric Sparks Riots and Concerns

Riots broke out in Skardu after Shia cleric Agha Baqir al-Hussaini was arrested and charged for his comments made during a religious gathering. During a Skardu Ulema Council meeting, Agha Baqir al-Hussaini made some remarks about whether Pakistan should enact stricter blasphemy laws in order to target the Shia community. He was detained for his remarks. Although Shias do not revere Islamic figures who fought the fourth Caliph, Ali, Sunnis and Shias adhere to the same core Islamic beliefs.

Pakistani Citizens Demand Kargil Highway Opening in Viral Video Amid Gilgit-Baltistan Protests

In a Viral Video Which was posted by Real Entertainment Pakistan Youtube Channel, You can see how Pakistani Citizens are requests to open Kargil Highway. The owner of this youtube channel Shoaib Chaudhary, made a video of asking question about Gilgit-Baltistan Protest. In which some citizens of Pakistan replied, "India is making cars on water and we are watching our exhibition to the whole world with our legs raised on 14th August." After asking questions about why Pakistan is not working on its own for the development just like India from some more people he received more expressive views. Another person said, " This is totally based on senior power and authorities. If Senior Authorities is not working or thinking for the development then how can you expect something from the common people."
