PM Modi US Visit: On Friday, during his address to the Indian community at the Ronald Regan Center in Washington, PM Narendra Modi announced that now H-1B visa can be renewed in US itself. "It has now been decided that the H-1B visa renewal can be done in the US itself," he said. The move opens a big possibility for expansion of the program to a large number of Indians. In the fiscal year 2022 nearly 4,42,000 H-1B workers from India were active in the United States and made up 73% of all H-1B users. Th new H1-B rules will make it easier for Indians to work and live in the United States.
New consulates in Bengaluru and Hyderabad
The US has announced that it intends to open two new consulates in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. It is part of a new initiative to 'boost people-to-people relationships'. The US Embassy in Delhi is one of the largest US diplomatic missions which is currently assisted by four consulates in in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad.

Relaxations in H1-B visa announced by US State Department
The new visa policy announced by US authorities is a part of the people-to-people initiative to smoothen the process of visa renewal for Indians working in the country. The US State Department also announced that it would launch a pilot to adjudicate status of domestic renewals of certain petition-based visas in the latter part of this year. A joint India-US Statement said "The leaders welcomed an announcement by the U.S. Department of State that it would launch a pilot to adjudicate domestic renewals of certain petition-based temporary work visas later this year, including for Indian nationals, with the intent to implement this for an expanded pool of H1B and L visa holders in 2024 and eventually broadening the program to include other eligible categories."
