In a significant diplomatic move amid ongoing tensions linked to Operation Sindoor, the Government of India has announced the formation of seven All-Party Delegations to carry the country’s firm message of zero-tolerance against terrorism to key global capitals. These delegations will engage with international stakeholders and members of the UN Security Council to present a unified national stance.
Taking to social media, senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor confirmed that he has accepted the government’s invitation to lead one of the delegations.
“When national interest is involved, and my services are required, I will not be found wanting. Jai Hind!” he tweeted, expressing honour at the responsibility entrusted to him.
Bipartisan Face of National Diplomacy
The initiative, launched under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, aims to showcase India’s political unity on an issue as critical as terrorism. Delegations will comprise MPs from across parties, prominent political figures, and seasoned diplomats.
The seven leaders heading the delegations are:
Shashi Tharoor (INC)
Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP)
Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU)
Baijayant Panda (BJP)
Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK)
Supriya Sule (NCP)
Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena)
BJP's Selections Spark Quiet Speculation
While the bipartisan outreach has been widely welcomed, political analysts have noted the BJP’s choice of representatives — particularly Baijayant Panda and Ravi Shankar Prasad — with some speculating about the internal balancing act within the ruling party and its efforts to ensure favourable global narratives. Critics have also questioned the absence of other senior opposition voices in leadership roles, despite the “all-party” tag.
Nonetheless, the presence of opposition leaders like Tharoor, Kanimozhi, and Supriya Sule is seen as a symbol of political maturity, especially in a globally sensitive climate.
Operation Sindoor Sets the Backdrop
The formation of the delegations follows Operation Sindoor, India's targeted military operation in response to cross-border terrorism, which has sparked international debate and diplomatic friction. The delegations are expected to counter propaganda, present factual timelines, and reinforce India's global commitment to peace and self-defence.
Sources suggest that the key talking points will include Pakistan’s support for terror groups, India’s strategic restraint, and the country’s long-standing demand for international accountability on terrorism.
