India Canada Relation:India has once again expressed its disapproval of Canada’s handling of a recent parade organized by the Ontario Gurdwara Committee, which saw the display of separatist slogans and offensive imagery targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event reignited tensions between the two nations, prompting India to urge Ottawa to cease providing sanctuary to what it perceives as criminal and secessionist elements.

India Condemns Canada Over Parade Featuring Separatist Slogans and Offensive Imagery

The Ontario Gurdwara Committee’s parade, held in Malton, Canada, featured floats adorned with provocative imagery, including maps of Khalistan, alongside inflammatory speeches delivered by individuals associated with groups like Dal Khalsa. Paramjit Mand and Avtar Singh Pannu, the latter of whom is declared a terrorist by Indian security agencies, reportedly delivered speeches that stoked tensions.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs released a statement condemning the celebration and glorification of violence

In response to the parade, India’s Ministry of External Affairs released a statement condemning the celebration and glorification of violence, emphasizing that such actions should have no place in a civilized society. India reiterated its concerns about the security of its diplomatic representatives in Canada, urging the Canadian government to ensure their safety and the ability to fulfill their duties without fear.

This latest incident follows previous confrontations between India and Canada over similar displays of separatist sentiments. Last year, a float depicting the assassination of a former Indian Prime Minister sparked outrage and diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, reacting to recent developments, criticized Canada for allegedly issuing visas to individuals with ties to organized crime despite warnings from New Delhi. The arrests of three Indian nationals in connection with a murder case in Canada further strained relations, with Canadian authorities acknowledging cooperation with US law enforcement agencies regarding the matter, though details were not disclosed.

India’s repeated calls for Canada to halt the harboring of what it deems as criminal and secessionist elements highlight the ongoing diplomatic friction between the two nations, underscoring the complexities of managing bilateral relations in the face of contentious issues.
