India is an attractive aviation market says Indian envoy at Paris Air Show

The Paris Air Show: India’s ambassador to France and Monaco Jawed Ashraf says there is a lot of buzz about India in the Paris Air Show.

The world’s largest air show-The Paris Air Show-competes with Britain’s Farnborough Air Show and is now back again after the pandemic-induced hiatus.

Mr Ashraf was referring to the monumental orders for aircraft placed by Air India and IndiGo Airlines.

Speaking to ANI, he said, “There is a lot of buzz at the Paris Air Show about India. This comes from the announcement by Indigo Airlines and what is billed as the largest order for Airbus. This follows the order that Air India had placed both on Airbus and Boeing for 470 aircraft just in February.”

Earlier this year, Tata-owned Air India placed orders for 470 aircraft with Boeing and Airbus Industries. In June 2023, rival IndiGo airlines ordered 500 narrow-bodies aircraft from Airbus. IndiGo’s order is billed as the biggest in Airbus’ industry.

A growing aviation sector

The ambassador pointed out that these orders reflected the growing demand for passenger aircraft in India as more and more people are flying for various reasons.

“Everyone recognizes that the aviation sector is growing at a very rapid pace. India is one of the top three aviation markets, the number of airports has doubled from 74 in the course of just nine years and the traffic at major airports is growing at double-digit rates. Now, this is the size and the market; therefore, we have placed more orders for aircraft, and there are aircraft flying in India,” Mr Ashraf told ANI.

Emerging market for components

India has become an emerging market for aircraft components. Companies like Saffran have started manufacturing advanced components and engines for civilian aircraft in the country.
