New Delhi: According to the reports, the central government on Monday denied claims that recent attacks in London by pro-Khalistan groups have halted trade negotiations between India and the UK. According to British media, New Delhi has put a stop to talks with the UK on a free trade agreement (FTA) because it wants more aggressive measures taken against the organisations responsible for the attack on the Indian High Commission in London last month. The Indian government, however, has refuted these allegations. In New Delhi, a source in the Indian administration claimed that the "news is baseless." According to the source, the following round of formal negotiations would probably begin on April 24 in London.

There would be no progress without a public condemnation of the pro-Khalistan extremist groups

The Indian government has "disengaged" from trade negotiations, which began in January of last year, according to the report, which cites senior British government sources. The Indian government reportedly made it clear that there would be no progress without a public condemnation of the pro-Khalistan extremist groups responsible for tearing down the Tricolor at India House in London and injuring two officials on March 19.

"Indians don't want to discuss about traid until they see a very visible manifestation of the UK's disapproval of fanaticism towards Khalistan. I wouldn't downplay how strongly people feel about this. Before they return to the table seriously, they anticipate the government to address Sikh fanaticism, the person added. The bilateral trade between the UK and India was valued at 34 billion pounds in 2022, increasing by 10 billion pounds in a single year, according to official UK government statistics. A successful FTA is anticipated to significantly improve these numbers.
