A resident group in south-east London has vowed to fight for one of its members, Vimal Pandya. Pandya had served during the Covid epidemic and was appreciated by her representative on behalf of the late Queen of Britain. Vimal Pandya lost the legal battle over the visa and is now facing deportation to India.
Rotherhithe Residents group have gathered over 177,000 signatures
An online petition in support of Vimal Pandya by the Rotherhithe Residents Group has collected over 1,77,000 signatures. Pandya came to the UK from India on a student visa, but his visa was put on hold after his educational institution lost its license to sponsor foreign students.
Pandya, 42, recently lost the case in the Immigration Tribunal. Now it is being told that they are in talks with their lawyers to fight further in the case.
The Rotherhithe Residents Group updated the Change.Org petition last week. It says, “We are devastated, he is devastated, but if a way forward can be found, we will not give up the fight.”
Members of the Rotherhithe Residents Group say, “Vimal has always shown how much he cares for the Rotherhithe community, where he has lived for 11 years. Many of us have received his help and support over the years, which is why we are fighting to stop his unjustified deportation.”
Pandya, who came to the UK from India in 2011 to study, was barred from returning in April 2014 after returning home to take a seriously ill relative back to his parents.
He was informed by the British Border Force officials that the college in which he was enrolled had lost the right of sponsorship. However, neither the college nor the Home Office allegedly informed him about this.
Thereafter Vimal Pandya had to struggle hard to resolve the issue without his original passport and other documents. He has since spent thousands of pounds in an effort to regularize his immigration status and complete his studies. Apart from this, he has paid thousands of pounds of college fees and the burden of debt is increasing on him.
