The Israel Iran War took a dangerous turn when, in a series of airstrikes and missile exchanges, Israel and Iran engaged in the most intense fighting yet between the two countries.

Israel Iran War – Operation Rising Lion

On13 June, Israel initiated Operation Rising Lion with simultaneous aerial and clandestine drone attacks on more than 100 Iranian targets, including nuclear installations (Natanz, Fordow), ballistic missile facilities, and the homes of senior IRGC officers. Iranian state television reported the killing of commanding officers including the commander of the IRGC, Hossein Salami and General Mohammad Bagheri who was well positioned to succeed Khamenei and at least two nuclear scientists.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the campaign as, in part, a mission to “eradicate the Iranian threat” and vowed that the operation would continue “as long as it takes.” The strikes were supposedly conducted by more than 200 F‑35I jets and drone operations coordinated by Mossad.

Iran's Response in the Iran-Israel War

Iran then launched Operation True Promise III on the night of June 13, with over 150 ballistic missiles and 100 drones aimed at Israel. Sirens screeched through Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and even Amman. Although many of the missiles were intercepted by Israeli, U.S., Jordanian and Saudi defenses, a few brought down buildings in Tel Aviv and elsewhere, inflicting at least two civilian fatalities and injuring dozens.

Costs to Civilians and Regional Tensions

Iran reports that in their territory, over 78 Iranians were killed, as many as 320 were wounded in Israeli strikes that have included targets such as the Mehrabad Airport.

At least two women were killed and dozens more injured and left with damaged homes from missile impacts in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan in Israel.

Neighboring countries are on high alert — U.S. embassies there are being partially evacuated, and air defense is being stepped up across the Gulf states.

What Happens After the Israel-Iran War

The global reaction includes emergency sessions of the UN Security Council and calls from world leaders for restraint. Oil markets surged as concerns mounted over potential tanker disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts caution that further escalation could draw in regional actors, such as Hezbollah and the Houthis.

Diplomacy is weakened. Nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran face serious disruption. The U.S. backs Israel's right to defend itself but has expressed wariness about engaging more deeply.

In summary, the Israel-Iran War is now teetering on the brink. As both countries move from warning to war, the world is left on a knife-edge. It will be crucial to monitor the ceasefire and diplomatic pressure to avoid escalation.
