During the 14th India-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue in New Delhi, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong affirmed their support for a two-state solution to address the enduring Israel-Palestine conflict. The recent Hamas attack on Israel, triggering a significant conflict, was condemned by both ministers. They emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian assistance in Gaza and called for strict adherence to international humanitarian law.
India and Australia Advocate Two-State Solution for Israel-Palestine Peace
The dialogue underscored three key points: a firm stance against compromising with terrorism, the necessity for immediate humanitarian aid in Gaza, and the imperative to address the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. Minister Jaishankar asserted that a viable solution to the Palestinian issue could only be achieved through a two-state framework, echoing the sentiments of many nations.
Minister Wong echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for a political solution. She highlighted the importance of progressing towards a two-state solution, ensuring peace and security for both Israeli and Palestinian peoples behind internationally recognized borders.
The Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue took place a day after the 2nd India-Australia 2+2 dialogue, where the defense and foreign ministers of both nations engaged in discussions, including the evolving situation in West Asia. The joint affirmation of the two-state solution reflects India and Australia’s shared commitment to finding a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the complex Israel-Palestine conflict.
