Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu says he is well

Benjamin Netanyahu health update: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he is alright. He made this statement on Saturday in a hospital. Israeli and international media reported that Netanyahu, 73, was admitted to a hospital after complaints of dizziness.

“Thank God, I feel really well,” the prime minister said. He added, “I ask you all, spend less time in the sun, drink more water, and may we all have a good new week.”

Netanyahu was referring to the heat wave sweeping Israel.

The video statement from the Israeli prime minister said he took a break on Friday in the coastal town of Sea of Galilee. Netanyahu was admitted to a hospital in Sheba after he complained of light dizziness.

A cabinet meeting scheduled on Sunday will now take place on Monday, according to the Israeli media.

Judicial reform controversy

The longest-serving prime minister in Israel’s history, Benjamin Netanyahu is in controversy these days because of his ‘judicial reforms.’

Some political observers say he wants to undercut the country’s judicial independence by ushering in the so-called reforms. Netanyahu is also involved in a few corruption cases.

Large sections of the country’s population oppose his push for judicial reforms. A few weeks ago, hundreds of military reservists ignored Netanyahu’s calls to join their duties. On Wednesday, Israel’s Channel 13 aired an audio of the Israeli prime minister shouting that such disobedience was “inconceivable.”

Netanyahu’s push for judicial reforms has also strained Israel’s ties with its biggest ally, the United States.

What are the corruption charges?

The investigation into Netanyahu’s alleged corruption began in 2016 when investigators determined that he favoured big businessmen in exchange for gifts-material and intangible.

The Israeli leader was accused of receiving cigars, expensive liquor, bracelets and luxury bags from businessmen. He also demanded patronizing coverage from the country’s two leading television channels.
