Mark Carney: Donald Trump’s Isolation on the Rise! After India-EU FTA Deal, Canada To Sign Historic C$2.8 Bn Uranium Supply Deal With India

Mark Carney: Canada would sign deals on energy, minerals, uranium and artificial intelligence with India in March 2026.

Mark Carney: Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, would likely be visiting India to sign a historic C$2.8 bn uranium supply deal with the country.

In an interview, Dinesh Patnaik, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, said Canada would sign deals on energy, minerals, uranium and artificial intelligence.

Why Is Carney Interested To Sign Deal With India?

Canada wants to diversify its alliances with world nations to think beyond the United States, its top trade partner.

Recently, Carney blasted the antics of US President Donald Trump and remarked the old rules-based order is over now. Carney added it’s high time that Middle powers such as Canada should act to build powerful coalitions to shape a more resilient, fairer world.

The Canadian PM is trying to mend relations with India after Justin Trudeau, the former Prime Minister of Canada, accused the Narendra Modi government of India in the killing of a separatist leader in 2023. Interestingly, India denied Trudeau’s claims saying the comments of Canada are baseless.

Patnaik also commented that formal negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India are likely to start in March 2026. Patnaik added that Canada would also be signing agreements with India on artificial intelligence, quantum computing, oil and gas and nuclear energy.

Canada’s Energy Minister Tim Hodgson remarked that the country would be delighted to deal in uranium with India under the cooperation agreement as long as the Asian giant abides by the International Energy Agency safeguards.

Why Is India Interested In The Deal?

US President Donald Trump has been hitting the country with illogical tariffs. India is open to diversify its world trade partners and is keen to join hands with nations that are equally hit with tariffs imposed by the Trump government.
