Meta: Over 12,000 employees set to be fired by Facebook’s parent company

Meta: Employees at Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta are going through a difficult time. The parent firm of Facebook will reportedly let go over 12000 ineffective team members. A few months ago, during the most recent Meta earnings call, Zuckerberg said that the social network platform is halting all employment. Tech companies other than Facebook have also put a halt to hiring.

According to reports, Meta is executing “silent layoffs” at Facebook, which could result in the loss of thousands of jobs. Although the business hasn’t yet provided any specifics, it is anticipated that about 15% of the underperforming employees would be let go. There are rumours that certain senior executives are planning to conduct silent layoffs in the upcoming weeks. “It might look like they are moving on, but the reality is they are being forced out,” some Facebook employees said.

Employees shouldn’t be too surprised by this, either, as the corporation has previously acknowledged restricting hiring and hinted at layoffs in the future. The CEO of Meta issued a caution about potential layoffs on the most recent earnings call. “Over the coming year, we intend to gradually slow the expansion of our staff. We’re going to reduce the size of a lot of teams so we can focus more on other things,” Zuckerberg stated on the earnings call.

Some employees put on 30 to 60 day list

The report also mentions that Meta is now laying off employees in order to reduce costs despite the recession. Some employees have apparently been placed on customary 30 to 60-day “lists” by the corporation, either to ask them to quit or find them a new position inside the organisation.

The CEO of Meta stated earlier this year that the company’s strategy is to gradually reduce personnel growth over the coming year, amid the economic crisis and significant layoffs in the software industry. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, meanwhile, urged staff members to put in their all-out effort and be more productive than ever. In response to the recession, a number of significant tech businesses, including Apple, Google, and others, have declared hiring freezes.
