PM Modi’s US state visit will be marked by his interaction with the Indian diaspora in Washington, D.C. Mr Modi will meet members of the Indian-American community on June 23 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington.
PM Modi will address members of the Indian diaspora and focus on their role in India’s growth story. This would be an invitation-only event where 1,000 Indian Americans are expected to turn up to hear Mr Modi speak.
Celebrated singer Mary Millben will perform at the June 23 event in front of the Indian Prime Minister. She has also been invited to the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations headquarters in New York on June 21.
Millben is a Black singer and media personality and has performed at the inauguration of Presidents George Bush, Barrack Obama and Donald Trump. A few days back, she expressed her excitement at PM Modi’s visit to the United States.
Not a big-scale event
Bharat Barai, the chief organizer of the Washington event says he is grateful that PM Modi will be spending a few hours with the diaspora. Mr Barai is a popular leader among the Indian-American community.
Mr Modi will address the diaspora between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in Washington (local time).
The Washington event will have a modest crowd size. Mr Modi’s interactions with Indian Americans in New York and Houston were far bigger in scale.
Hundreds gather across the US
India Today reports that hundreds of Indian Americans gathered in New York and other cities on Sunday to welcome PM Modi. They were chanting “Modi- Modi” while expressing their happiness at Modi’s US state visit.
Around 1,000 Indian Americans are expected to fly to Washington, D.C. this week to witness Mr Mod’s welcome by President Biden and the First Lady.
