Nepal Plane Crash: What is Black Box, which will reveal the cause of the accident?

A big plane accident happened in Nepal yesterday. Yeti Airlines ATR-72 aircraft crashed in Pokhara, Nepal, killing all the passengers on board. There were 68 passengers including 4 crew members in it. The reason for this accident is not yet clear.

Its investigation is going on now. It is being told that this accident might have happened due to technical fault or human error. The reason for the crash will be known only after the complete investigation report comes. The inquiry committee will also search the black box. Only from the black box will it be possible to know what was going on in the plane before the crash.

What is black box?

Black box is such a device which is in the aircraft. It records the performance of aircraft and flight parameters. Many factors are recorded in it. This airspeed, altitude. Records vertical acceleration and fuel flow.

It consists of two components. There is a component flight data recorder (FDR) and a cockpit voice recorder (CVR). The CVR as the name suggests records the conversations that take place in the cockpit. In this, the conversation with the pilot and air traffic control is recorded.

However, the CVR only holds 2 hours of cockpit recording. With a fix time it is replaced with new data. While FDR stores up to 25 hours of flight data.

The black box is generally fitted at the rear of the plane. It is believed that it survives in a crash as it is the least affected part. However, this device is quite durable and can survive even 3,400 Gs or gravitational acceleration.
