New York firing: Joe Biden condemns subway shooting, calls on authorities to catch perpetrator

President Joe Biden has called the mass shooting in the New York City subway a cowardly incident. Biden said that those who also carried out this incident will not be spared and in any case they will be punished for their deeds.

"To start, I'd like to say a few words about the mass shooting in New York City subway this morning, you all read and heard about. My wife Jill and I are praying for those who are injured and all those touched by that trauma, and we're grateful for all the first responders who jumped into action, including civilians -- civilians who didn't hesitate to help their fellow passengers and try to shield them," Biden said.
The US President further added, "We're not letting up on it until we find out, and we find the perpetrator," he said.. "We're going to stay in close contact with New York authorities and as we learn more about the situation over the coming hours and day," he said.

At least 16 people have been injured in a shooting at a subway station in New York's Brooklyn on Tuesday morning. While traveling on the New York City subway on Tuesday morning, a gunman wearing a gas mask set off a smoke bomb and then set fire to a moving subway car, injuring at least 17 people, according to officials.

"The accused filled the train with smoke and opened fire on the passengers. He was reportedly a Black male, 5'5" tall, with a heavy build. Wearing a green construction-type vest and a grey hooded sweatshirt," Keechant Sewell, the New York City Police Commissioner, told reporters on Tuesday.
Notably, incident in Brooklyn comes just a day after United States President Joe Biden announced new gun control measures.

"The incident isn’t being investigated as an act of terrorism but the police department isn’t ruling it out. A motive isn’t yet known and five people remain in critical condition. There are no known explosive devices on the subway, and children at five nearby schools remain sheltered in place until dismissal, which will be managed with extra support from the police department," the NYPD said.
