According to the US Geological Survey, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck early on Tuesday morning in Northern California knocked out electricity for thousands of people.
6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Northern California in US
As per additional information provided by the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred just after 5:30 a.m. ET near Eureka in Humboldt County, at a depth of 10 miles, and 7.4 miles west-southwest of Ferndale. Nobody was said to have been hurt by the earthquake.

More than 55,000 utility customers without power in Humboldt County
More than 55,000 utility customers were without power in Humboldt Country as of 6:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, according to the outage tracking website Poweroutage.us. As of early Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service's Tsunami Warning System reported that there was no threat of a tsunami in conjunction with the earthquake. Many others said on social media that the MyShake earthquake warning app awakened them.
Nearly a year has passed since the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred offshore in the Northern California region of Cape Mendocino on December 21, 2021. There were no significant injuries or damages associated with that earthquake.
About 24 miles to the west of the little town of Petrolia, along the rugged wilderness of California's Lost Coast region, in Humboldt County, that earthquake had stuck at a depth of 5.6 miles in the Pacific Ocean.
