After the India-Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup, there was an atmosphere of fear after violent clashes between Hindu and Muslim communities in Leicester City in eastern England last month.
180 Hindu outfits write to UK PM Truss over clashes in Leicester
In this episode, 180 British Indian, Hindu organizations and temples have written to UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, urging her to intervene and protect her. The letter said that Hindus are being targeted and the country is feeling threatened after the violence in Leicester and Birmingham. which is still ongoing.
The delegates also made 6 appeals, including determining adequate protection to the Hindu community in the short and long term. "We write to draw your attention to the recent incidents in Leicester, Birmingham and other cities, which have deeply disturbed the Indian and Hindu communities in the UK," the letter to the PM said.
The hatred towards the Hindu community is so extreme that Hindus are being subjected to open violence, threats and abuse through physical attacks, harassment on social media and more recently soft targeting in schools and workplaces.
Open letter signed by organisations, including National Council of Hindu Temples, BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Sanstha UK, Indian National Students Association UK, ISKCON Manchester, Overseas Friends of BJP (UK), The Hindu Lawyers Association (UK), and Insight UK.
They said the Hindu community has made the United Kingdom their home for more than half a century.We are less than two per cent of the population, and yet our contribution, which you are undoubtedly aware of, is enormous, both in terms of socio-economic contribution to the British economy and social integration as well. Upholding our progressive British values. The Hindu community is the most law-abiding, as evidenced by the prison statistics. Yet today we feel like a community that is surrounded.
