Pakistan: 200 bodies found at rooftop of Hosp, probe order against staff

A shocking case has come to light from Pakistan. About 200 dead bodies were found decomposing on the roof of a hospital in Multan city.

According to reports in Pakistani media, hundreds of human body parts have been found from the roof of the morgue of Nishtar Hospital in Multan. The government has ordered an inquiry into the matter. A top official of Nishtar Hospital has blamed the police and rescue officials for the rotting of bodies on the roof of the hospital. Many videos of dead bodies are going viral on social media which has shocked Pakistan.

According to Pakistani news website Geo News, after receiving information about unidentified dead bodies on the roof of the hospital, the Vice Chancellor of Punjab and Nishtar Medical University have formed separate committees. Speaking to the website, Dr Maryam Ashraf, Head of the Medical University's Department of Anatomy, said that the rescue officers and the police have been held responsible for the accumulation of bodies on the roof of the morgue. He said that the morgue cannot refuse to accept the dead bodies as it is obliged to keep them.

Rotten corpses are kept on the roof

The officer said that the police and rescue officers ask us to keep them in the hospital and do not take them back on time. We have written documents in which we have asked them to take the dead bodies. The hospital official said the bodies found by the police usually decompose and cannot be kept in the morgue. Gradually the insects start eating the corpses and move from one corpse to another. So the rotting corpses are kept on the terrace where there are three rooms.

The official also accused the NGO of not taking back the bodies. He said that the only reason for keeping dead bodies on the roof is that their influx is very high and the number of their return to police stations is very less. He, however, dismissed the number of bodies at 200 on the terrace. Maryam said that let me make it clear that only a few dead bodies are kept above. The advisor to the Chief Minister of Punjab said that an informer had informed him about the rotting bodies on the terrace.
