Pakistan military hints at action against Imran Khan under Army Act, Official Secrets Act

The Pakistan Army has decided to show no mercy or tolerance to anyone involved in what it has referred to as a “foreign supported and internally instigated, promoted and provoked attack on military installations and public and private properties” after days of violence and chaos in the country following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.

During the unrest, supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party led by Imran Khan, who had been arrested on May 9 in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, destroyed state institutions, particularly delicate military buildings.

General Syed Asim Munir, the Pakistani Chief of Army Staff, received a thorough update on the state of law and order as of May 9 at a crucial Special Corps Commanders Conference meeting held at GHQ (General Headquarters) Rawalpindi. He was informed that the violence was committed to advance “vested political interests”.

The current internal and external security situation was thoroughly informed to the forum, according to a news release from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
