Pakistan Economy: As the holy month of Ramadan begins, people in Pakistan are preparing for an increase in the cost of necessities, especially food, according to a story published on Sunday by ANI, which cited an Express Tribune report.
Rising Cost of Kitchen Essentials
The adjacent country's citizens, according to the research, are already experiencing a two- to three-fold spike in the cost of basic kitchen necessities including meat, eggs, vegetables, sugar, edible oil, and ghee. Consumers with low to moderate incomes are suffering even more financially as a result of this significant increase in the cost of necessities.
Experts predict that commodity prices will rise even more during the fasting month of Ramadan, having risen by 31.5% on average in recent months. There could be a 60% increase in the rates of several food goods compared to their pre-Ramadan levels.
Varied Pricing Across Stores
Pakistani YouTube channel Catalyst Records has posted a video. The reporter asked a person, "Ramadan has started in Pakistan from tomorrow but inflation is so high that a poor man is not able to understand whether to have Sehri or Iftar."
On this the person replied, "See sir, this is the scene of pricing that if you go to different stores, you will get different rates for everything. Here the thing is priced at Rs 15, somewhere else it is priced at Rs 20 and small shopkeepers have their own prices. They are sitting after making their own rates." He aaded, "At this moment, sir, we are regretting our separation from India. If we had stayed with India, perhaps we too would have made some progress."
