PM Modi China Visit: Historic ! Border Management To Kailash Mansarovar Yatra And Direct Flights, Meeting With Xi Jinping More Than Fruitful

On August 31, 2025, in Tianjin, Prime Minister Modi realized several milestones with China—strengthening border management, reviving the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, restarting direct flights, and holding a positive meeting with President Xi Jinping, emphasizing trust and stability in relations.

PM Modi China Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s China Trip has marked a historical moment in India-China relations. On August 31, 2025, in Tianjin, Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. His visit has led to high-profile results—progress in border management, the revival of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, the reopening of direct flights, and the easing of diplomatic tension have been achieved.

First Visit to China After Seven Years with a Difference

After 7 years, Modi paid a visit to China with a new outlook, signaling that rebuilding ties was going to be a serious issue. With India sending out a strong message to Beijing and the SCO, the visit showed how India was willing to move forward with cooperation while at the same time balancing regional diplomacy.

Agreement on Secure Border Management

Among many successful moments during the trip, one that would have perhaps the most important implications for future cooperation was the agreement struck between the two on how to step up border management. Modi and Xi both tried to convey that peace and stability on the Himalayan frontier were to be the foundation of the talks. The two leaders, pointing out that the implemented measures had created a more secure environment, also agreed on further arrangements to ensure frictions would not occur in the future.

Connecting the Himalayas through the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Pilgrimage access has also been unraveled on the way to the border. A joint announcement of both countries made it known that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra would be reactivated after a halt during the previous period. This move is perceived as a major cultural and spiritual step for Indian devotees, reaffirming people-to-people relationships beyond politics.

Direct Flights Have Been Restarted

Part of the mentioned agreements includes the reopening of direct passenger flights, which were stopped back in 2020. The action is expected to bring about a wide range of benefits for students, business travelers, and tourists, and as a result, mobility between the two countries will be facilitated, and the regional economy, along with cultural exchanges, will receive a boost.

Run-up to the Meeting with President Xi: Productive

According to the report, the talks between Modi and Xi were direct and offered respect. Modi not only congratulated China on its SCO chairmanship but was also receptive to Xi’s compliment about India’s civilizational heritage.
