PM Modi US Visit: On Sunday, President Joe Biden took to Twitter and said that the Indo-US relationship is one of the most consequential in the world.
He had hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington during the latter’s state visit to the US.
Biden said on Twitter, “The friendship between the United States and India is among the most consequential in the world. And it’s stronger, closer, and more dynamic than ever.”
Both countries signed several deals during PM Modi’s Washington visit. These deals pertain to space, high technology, telecom, Artificial Intelligence and telecom.
The US State Department also announced that it was easing its visa-issuing process for Indians living in the US.
PM Modi’s response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to President Biden’s tweet saying the US-India friendship will make the planet better and sustainable.
“I fully agree with you, @POTUS @JoeBiden! Friendship between our countries is a force of global good. It will make a planet better and more sustainable, “PM Modi said in his tweet.
Mr Modi arrived in the US on June 21 and attended the 9th International Yoga Day celebrations at the UN headquarters before travelling to Washington.
The prime minister was received in Washington by the First Lady and President Joe Biden.
Historic state visit
Several experts have called PM Modi’s state visit to the US as historic.
The Indian prime minister addressed the US Congress and received several standing ovations from those present.
Both countries signed key defence deals that augment India’s defence preparedness. As part of these deals, India will receive 17 drones meant for monitoring the Chinese and Pakistani borders.
GE Aerospace will start manufacturing engines for fighter aircraft in India. Furthermore, Micron Technology will set up a semiconductor manufacturing plant in India to augment the country’s supply chain capabilities.
