Protests erupt after black man shot by US police

A number of protesters come out in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after a black man was shot and seriously injured by the Police on Sunday evening.

To control the situation, a curfew has been imposed in the city. The curfew is in effect from 8 p.m. Monday night until 7 a.m.Tuesday, according to the Kenosha Police Department. The Wisconsin National Guard headed to Kenosha on Monday, according to the Kenosha News.

Wisconsin Governer Tony Evers has also authorized the National Guard to maintain the local law enforcement and "help protect critical infrastructure and assist in maintaining public safety and the ability of individuals to peacefully protest," according to a statement.

The man has been identified as Jacob Blake, and is currently in stable condition, his family said.

A video that has surfaced online shows Blake being shot in the back as he tries to get into his car. The video appears to show three officers with their weapons drawn following him as he walks from the back of a vehicle to the driver's side. As soon as he enter's the driver's side, officers shoot him multiple times on the back. His wife and children were also in the same car and can be heard shouting in the video.

Police have refrained from commenting on the matter.

Meanwhile, the already enraged public amid the ongoing Black Lives Matter Movement came on street to protest against the shooting. Hundreds of people marched on police headquarters, vehicles were set on fire as protesters shouted "We won't back down".

Jacob Blake's name kept trending on social media while thousands signed a petition to arrest officers involved in the shooting.

The incident comes amid tensions in the US over racism following the death of a Black man George Floyd earlier this year.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Monday released a statement seeking for a "full and transparent investigation" of the shooting.

"This morning, the nation wakes up yet again with grief and outrage that yet another Black American is a victim of excessive force," Mr Biden said. "The officers must be held accountable."
