Queen Elizabeth II Funeral: According to Politico, which cited a senior parliamentary official familiar with the situation, the UK government, the House of Commons authorities, denied permission to a Chinese government delegation to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s lying-in-state in Westminster Hall, London, creating a new diplomatic rift with Beijing.
Prior to Monday’s state funeral, all heads of state travelling to London for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral are welcome to attend the lying-in-state in Westminster Hall and sign a book of condolences at Lancaster House.

When he informed his colleagues that he had turned down a request to allow Chinese officials entry to Westminster Hall, where the late queen will lay-in-state until her funeral on Monday, House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle launched further diplomatic salvos.
Newly appointed UK Prime Minister Liz Truss said she would be more confrontational with Beijing than her predecessor Boris Johnson.
Politico stated that Hoyle’s office declined to comment on security-related issues. This significant development occurs as the UK government is taking a more assertive approach toward China. According to Politico, Truss advocated for harsher rhetoric on China in the long-term foreign and defence strategy as well as the formal recognition of the Uyghur genocide.

When the then-foreign secretary, Truss, summoned the Chinese ambassador in August over Beijing’s aggression against Taiwan and claimed there had been “increasingly aggressive behaviour and rhetoric from Beijing in recent months, which threaten peace and stability in the region,” the UK’s attitude toward China was also very clear.
The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office created the invitations to the queen’s burial last week. As the head of state of China, Chinese President Xi Jinping received an official invitation, but he is not anticipated to attend in person.
