Russia-Ukraine War: In a “Massive Onslaught,” Zelensky Claims Russia Attacked Ukraine with 36 Rockets

Russia-Ukraine War: On Saturday, Russian forces launched another massive round of missile strikes into Ukraine, severely damaging the country’s vital energy infrastructure and causing at least 1.5 million people to lose power.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Russia launched a “massive strike” overnight with the launch of about 36 missiles, the most of which were intercepted.
Two days remain in Vladimir Putin’s eight-month-long invasion of Ukraine. Over the past two weeks, the Kremlin has upped its targeting of civilian targets, such as power and heating infrastructure, in an effort to deprive millions of people of energy as winter approaches.

Russia is attempting to start a new refugee crisis in Europe, Ukrainian authorities claim

Zelenskiy’s top aide claimed that by forcibly displacing Ukrainians from their homes, Russia is attempting to start a new refugee crisis in Europe. According to Mykhailo Podolyak on Twitter, the leaders of European capitals will determine whether Putin can carry out his plan.

The number of attacks on infrastructure has escalated as Kremlin forces experience numerous reverses in the east and southeast.

They also coincide with the appointment of Air Force General Sergei Surovikin, who assumed command of Russia’s forces in Ukraine on October 8, two days before the first significant power plant strikes.
Strikes on power plants were reported on Saturday in areas of Ukraine ranging from Zaporizhzhia in the southeast to Volyn in the west.

Throughout the nation, from the Transcarpathian region in the southwest to Kharkiv, more than 1,000 kilometres to the northeast, to occupied Kherson, air alarms signalling potential missiles in the area sounded repeatedly.

According to reports, 18 long-range missiles were destroyed.

Ukrainian government representatives, including Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, keep pleading with allies for better air defence systems.

Many areas are currently experiencing outages, and several will also have their water supply temporarily cut off, according to officials.

To relieve pressure on the country’s energy infrastructure, Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s national power grid operator, announced that it will initially restrict electricity supplies to Kyiv, the capital, and at least ten other districts.

According to a presidential aide, about 1.5 million people lack electricity, with many of them living far from the front lines in Khmelnytskyi’s western district.
Zelenskiy stated earlier this week that the damage to nearly one-third of Ukraine’s power plants caused by recent attacks is likely to increase.

According to Ukrenergo on its Telegram channel, the extent of the fresh damage sustained on Saturday “is comparable or even exceeds” that which was observed following the strikes on energy facilities from October 10 to 12. Customers were urged to reduce their electrical use in order to save energy.
Two days after an explosion that Moscow attributed to Ukraine damaged the Kerch Strait Bridge connecting the occupied Crimea to mainland Russia, Kremlin forces first initiated broad attacks on energy installations and other civilian targets.

Days later, Putin said that the Russian military still needed to finish the job because some of its targets in that series of attacks had been missed.
According to Mick Ryan, a military analyst and retired Australian army general, the continuous air assault implies that Russia, with its troops now under Surovikin’s leadership, is “trying to destroy the will of the Ukrainian people.”

The merciless Russian bombing campaign on civilians in Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city, is thought to have been led by Surovikin.

Ryan wrote in a Twitter thread that “it is evident he has fallen to the belief that populations may be decimated by aerial bombardment.”
