Russia-Ukraine War: “Kamikaze Drones” Attack Kyiv as Ukraine Experiences Multiple Explosions

Russia-Ukraine War: The Ukrainian presidency claimed that early on Monday, nearly eight months into a war that has already claimed thousands of lives, Russian-launched “kamikaze drones” assaulted Kyiv.
The drones were seen in pictures taken by an AFP journalist skimming low above Kyiv as policemen opened fire on them from the ground. On other photographs, the city could be seen filled with explosions and smoke.

Before the initial explosion at approximately 6:35 am (03:35 GMT), air raid sirens began to ring in Kyiv. These sirens were then heard throughout the majority of the nation.
Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff for the president, posted on social media that “kamikaze drones” had struck the city.

He continued, “The Russians believe it would benefit them, but it reveals their desperation”.

“Increased air defence systems are required immediately. More armaments to thwart the opposition and protect the sky.”

The assaults come precisely one week after Russia launched a huge missile attack on the national capital of Ukraine and several other locations.

The drone attack, according to Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, started a fire and damaged a number of buildings in the district’s downtown Shevchenkivsky, and he advised inhabitants to seek refuge.

“There are active fire departments. A number of houses suffered damage. Doctors are on the scene, “On Telegram, he said.

“We are debunking the claims of the casualties.”

The mayor additionally shared a photo of what he claimed to be the burned remains of one of the loitering weapons known as kamikaze drones, which can hover and wait for an opportunity to attack.

Iran “drones”

Despite Tehran’s denials, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last week that Iranian drones were involved in Russian strikes on energy facilities in various cities.

In the largest wave of attacks in months, Russian missiles descended on Kyiv and other cities on October 10.

The attacks resulted in at least 19 fatalities, 105 injuries, and a widespread uproar.

On October 11, Moscow carried out additional strikes, albeit on a lower scale, targeting energy facilities in western Ukraine far from the battlefield.

The explosion that damaged a vital bridge connecting Russia to the Crimean peninsula that Moscow has annexed, according to Russian President Putin, prompted the strikes.

Putin expressed satisfaction on Friday and stated that “for now,” there was no need for additional significant strikes against Ukraine.

Despite a spate of humiliating losses, the Russian president insisted that Moscow was “doing everything right” in its invasion of Ukraine.

The biggest city in the same-named area immediately north of Crimea, Kherson, has been inching closer and closer to Kyiv’s forces in southern Ukraine.

The city of Kherson was the first significant city to fall after the Kremlin began its invasion. Kherson is one of four regions in Ukraine that Moscow recently claimed to have annexed.

Fresh military support for Kiev was pledged by Washington on Friday “in the wake of Russia’s heinous missile strikes on civilians across Ukraine.”

More ammunition for the Himars rocket systems, which Ukraine has used to wreak havoc on Russian targets, was included in the latest $725 million package.

It puts the entire amount of US military aid provided to Ukraine since the Russian incursion started on February 24 to $17.6 billion.
