Saudi Arabia says that we hope the Taliban will run a good government

There has been a reaction from Saudi Arabia, which has been silent on the Taliban for a long time. Saudi Arabia says that we hope the Taliban will run a good government and establish peace and stability in Afghanistan. However, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud did not specify what Saudi Arabia’s stance towards the Taliban would be in the coming days and whether it would be recognized.

Addressing a press conference in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, Prince Faisal said the country hopes the Taliban government will act in the interests of the Afghan people and stop outside interference. The government there will end violence, anarchy and provide security to all.

The Saudi Foreign Minister also expressed condolences to those killed in the Kabul attacks during the press conference. He said that we respect the sovereignty of Afghanistan and will continue to help Afghanistan overcome this difficult time and restore it.

Significantly, during the Taliban rule in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, Saudi Arabia was the third country, after Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, to recognize the Taliban government.
