Saudi govt ‘infiltrate’ Wikipedia to ‘control content’ ?

The Saudi Arabian government has tried to control the content of the website by infiltrating Wikipedia. This has been claimed in a report. Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) reported that Saudi Arabia has jailed two of its editors, Osama Khalid and Ziyad al-Sofiani, on charges of influencing public opinion and “violating public morality”.

According to the report said that both were sentenced to five and eight years. The authorities claimed that the two editors had shared vital information about political activists in Saudi Arabia.

Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia featuring openly editable content created and sourced by users from around the world.

Wikipedia is a volunteer service, powered and maintained by a full-time staff and thousands of contributors who work for free.

China has been accused of intrusion

This is not the first time that the news of intrusion to control the content on Wikipedia has come to the fore. Earlier, similar allegations were leveled against China. At the same time, action was also taken on Wikipedia from Russia. A Russian court imposed a heavy fine on Wikipedia for writing articles related to the ongoing war in Ukraine. A Russian court fined Wikipedia’s owner, the Wikimedia Foundation, 2 million rubles ($32,600) for writing articles related to the Ukraine war. The head of the Foundation in Russia had informed about this.

According to Reuters, Stanislav Kozlovsky had said that this fine was imposed for not removing the articles which Russia had demanded to be removed.
