Senior Al-Qaeda leader Husam Abd-al-Ra'uf killed in Afghanistan

Al-Qaeda mastermind, Mohsen Almisri, was killed in an operation conducted by Afghan forces in Andar district of Ghazni province, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Saturday.

Al-Qaeda is a transnational extremist Salafist militant organization founded in Peshawar, Pakistan in 1988 by Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, Abdullah Azzam, and several other Arab volunteers during the Soviet–Afghan War.

Almisri was operating as the terrorist group key member for the Indian subcontinent.

Earlier, the NDS had said that Almisri has succumbed to his injuries during the arrest.

Later, the Afghanistan intelligence and security service corrected its information and said Almisri was killed in Afghan forces operation in Andar district in Ghazni province. (ANI)

Al-Masri, also known as Husam Abd-al-Rauf, is an Egyptian national who figured in the FBI‘s list of most wanted terrorists.

The U.S. issued a federal arrest warrant in 2018 after he was charged with conspiracy to kill American nationals and providing material support and resources to foreign terrorist organizations, according to information on the FBI’s website.

Al-Masri's killing comes as peace talks continue in Qatar between the Taliban and the Afghan government in a bid to end the long-running war.
