France stabbing: Reuters says, eight young children and an adult have been wounded in a knife attack in France. The attack happened on Thursday, 8 June at 9.37 am in Annecy.The same report says the children were about 3 years old. Annecy is a small town nestled in the Alps between France and Switzerland.
Reuters later said that four children and an adult have been wounded. Three children are in a life-threatening condition.
The interior ministry has also said that four children and two adults are hurt in this incident. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanian said on Twitter that the attacker has been arrested.
BFM TV reported that the knifing had happened in a park and the attacker was a Syrian asylum seeker. It also reported that lawmakers in Paris stopped their debate midway to hold a moment of silence for the victims.
French National Assembly Speaker Braun-Privet said on Twitter,” Nothing more abominable than to attack children.”

The MP from Haute Savoire region Virginie Dube-Miller also said that the attacker was an asylum seeker. However, the police haven’t commented on the identity of the attacker, other than to say it was a man.Antoine Armand, a local legislator told the media that the attack happened while the children were playing in a playground. He termed the attack “abominable.”
“Absolute Cowardice”
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Twitter that the stabbing was “absolute cowardice.” He also said that the adults and the children are in a serious condition and the nation is in shock.
Syrian refugees in France
Paris has allowed several thousand Syrian refugees to enter France. However, many of these people do not get refugee status in this country.
According to French-Syrian journalist Khaled Sid Mohand, Paris has denied asylum status to 30,000 Syrians.
