The recommendation of Pakistan to nominate former US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize has sparked strong reactions from across the world, and from within the country. The surprising decision came just days after Trump hosted Pakistan’s army chief at the White House.
The Pakistani government claimed Trump played a key role in calming tensions between India and Pakistan. Let us tell you, India has clarified multiple times that he had nothing to do with ceasefire and
But people pointed out that Trump supported Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Iran. Many see the nomination as embarrassing and out of touch. Some even called it “servility” and “pandering.”
Many prominent Pakistani voices, including diplomats and activists, slammed the decision. Journalist Zahid Hussain posted on X (formerly Twitter), “So pathetic on the part of the Pakistan government. A man who has backed genocidal war in Gaza and is planning to invade Iran.”

Trump has called Israel’s attack on Iran “ excellent “ . And Pakistan government has recommended him for Nobel Peace prize. 😯

Former UN envoy Maleeha Lodhi said, “Ingratiation cannot serve as policy. It is unfortunate that the government is recommending Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize. A man who has backed Israel's genocidal war in Gaza & called Israel's attack on Iran "excellent". This move does not reflect the views of the people of Pakistan."

Activist Rida Rashid also criticised the move sharply. She said, “The genocide in Gaza is still happening because Trump wants it. Zero dignity.” Rida called the PAK government a “puppet regime.” Another activist said Pakistan is acting like a “rentier state.”
The genocide in Gaza is still happening because Trump wants it. Another war in the Middle East is brewing because Trump called for it. And yet, Pakistan’s puppet regime, eager to please the empire, recommends him for the Nobel Peace Prize. Zero dignity.

Pakistan claimed Trump helped end the conflict during Operation Sindoor. But India has stated clearly that the ceasefire was negotiated between the two nations without any third-party help. Trump has also offered to mediate on Kashmir, an idea India has strongly rejected.
It is believed that the nomination is a political move to get Trump’s support in the future. Senator Allama Raja Nasir called it “deeply misguided and ethically hollow.” National security expert Derek Grossman said, “Whatever dignity Pakistan had left, and there wasn’t much, is now gone.”

Mehlaqa Samdani, director of the Community Alliance for Peace and Justice, said the move was “cringe-worthy pandering” and showed a “colonised mindset.”
Good lord, this is embarrassing beyond belief. Pakistan's government recommending Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize reeks of servility and a colonized mindset--such open display of cringe-worthy pandering! https://t.co/ZS1Thmc0ZU

Pakistan’s decision to nominate Trump for a peace prize has created deep divisions. While the government praises diplomacy, several citizens feel it sends the wrong message. For many, the move reflects weakness, not peacebuilding.
