Sri Lanka not to be part of any Indian Ocean turf war

Recently, a Chinese ship arrived at Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka for docking and India gave its sharp reaction to this. Now a few days after this incident, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has made his country’s policy clear in gestures. Regarding Sri Lanka, which is facing economic crisis, he said that he does not want problems like the Pacific Ocean region to now come to the Indian Ocean region as well. Also, Sri Lanka has unfortunately been made a ‘punching bag’ for Hambantota due to the geopolitical system of the Indian Ocean. In such a situation, Sri Lanka will not be a participant in the ‘fight for supremacy of the big powers’ in this region.

Wickremesinghe was addressing the graduate children at the convocation ceremony of the National Defense College on Wednesday. He said- We do not participate in any military alliance. At the same time, we do not want the problems of the Pacific Ocean region to come in the Indian Ocean region. We do not want to make this place a conflict or battle zone.

This statement of Ranil Wickremesinghe is also important because a few days ago a Chinese ship ‘Yuan Wang 5’ reached Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka to refuel. A war of words was witnessed between the Chinese Embassy and the Indian High Commission regarding this docking of the Chinese ship.

Regarding the Hambantota port, Ranil Wickremesinghe said that due to the geopolitics of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has been made a punching bag because of this port. But this is not a military port, but ours is a commercial port. This port reflects our strategic importance.
