Anthropic: Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, has firmly rejected the pressure of Pentagon to loosen safeguards on its artificial intelligence model.
Amodei wrote that Anthropic would never accede to the requests by Pentagon that would have forced it to cross red lines of fully autonomous weaponry and mass domestic surveillance.
Anthropic Says No To Unjustified Terms
Anthropic was given a deadline till February 27 by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to accede to the military terms or risk being blacklisted. The US officials also issued a threat to Anthropic of invoking the Defence Production Act (a wartime law) that would have given Donald Trump the absolute control over the resources of Anthropic by labelling the company as a supply chain risk.

Amodei went on to comment that the stance of Pentagon is contradictory in nature as it calls Claude as essential to national defence while labelling Anthropic as a national security risk. The Anthropic CEO went on to comment that Anthropic has already provided great value to the agencies in the United States of America by deploying Claude for operational planning, cyber operations and intelligence analysis.
OpenAI Signs Deal With Pentagon
In another development, the competitor of Anthropic – OpenAI – has signed a deal with the Pentagon. The deal would allow Pentagon to leverage OpenAI models in the classified network of the US defence agency.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump had wrote that he is directed every Federal Agency in the United States Government to immediately cease all use of Anthropic’s technology. Trump also commented that Anthropic should better get their act together quickly else he would use the Presidency’s full power to make the company comply, followed by a series of civil and criminal consequences to follow.
