Suspect Detained for Tossing Suspected Shotgun Cartridge onto Buckingham Palace Grounds ahead of King Charles’s coronation

King Charles III: According to police, a man flung what appeared to be shotgun ammunition onto the palace grounds on Tuesday and was then detained outside of London’s Buckingham Palace. The incident happened four days prior to King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s coronation.

The man was taken into custody

King Charles will be formally crowned at Westminster Abbey in London on May 6, which will kick off the festivities for his coronation. The following day, May 7, Windsor Castle, west of London, will host a televised music concert with “world music icons and contemporary artists,” according to Buckingham Palace. The conclusion of coronation weekend will take place on May 8, which is a national holiday in the UK this year. After the man was taken into custody, the police established a perimeter. Following a professional evaluation, a precautionary controlled explosion was performed.

King and the Queen Consort were not at Buckingham Palace

Police discovered a knife in the suspect’s possession when they arrested him on suspicion of having an offensive weapon. According to Metropolitan Police, he was also carrying a suspicious-looking bag. There have been no reports of guns fired, injuries to policemen or members of the public, and police said they are not treating the situation as related to terrorism. Following the incident, roads were closed but later reopened. Additionally, most of the cordons have been removed. According to a report, the King and the Queen Consort were not at Buckingham Palace when the man was arrested.
