Donald Trump: Former President Donald Trump arrived in Maimi after being summoned in the classified documents case. Federal prosecutor Jack Smith has indicted Trump for keeping those documents in an unauthorized manner and for lying to the authorities.
According to a Reuters/IPSOS poll, 81% of Republicans believe that the case is politically motivated.
Trump’s rivals in the party, notably Ron DeSantis also believe that the federal authorities are biased.
The Reuters poll also indicated that Trump leads the Republican nomination race by a wide margin. 43% of self-identified Republicans preferred Trump as their President. Florida Governor scored 22%.
In May this year, Trump led DeSantis 49% to 19%, but that was before the Florida Governor entered the race for the Republican nomination.
“Trump is toast”
Meanwhile, former attorney general William Barr believes there is enough evidence to prosecute Trump in the classified documents case. He was speaking to Fox News last week.
Trump’s Republican colleague, Chris Christie believes "This evidence looks pretty damning." He was responding to a question on CNN whether the Democrats were weaponizing the investigation.
Huge crowd in Miami expected
Miami Police are expecting a 50,000-cheering crowd in the city o Monday. Police chief Manny Morales says he would close all the streets in downtown Miami if necessary.
In January 2021, a huge crowd assembled in Washington protesting against the poll results. Some people from this crowd even entered the US Capitol and threatened the lawmakers.
Trump’s trial is not due before November 2024, when Presidential polls happen. The former President has already said he won’t leave the race. Trump hasn’t ruled out whether he would pardon himself should he become President again.
The former President is due for another trial beginning in March 2024.
