Trump supporters, Black Lives Matter protesters clash; 1 person dead

One person was killed in a violent clash on Saturday in Portland, Oregon between US President Donald Trump's supporters and Black Lives Matter protesters.

A caravan of about 600 vehicles Trump supporters broke out on the streets downtown leading to the fights with counter-demonstrators in the city.

It is not clear whether the shooting that led to killing was related to fight between Trump supporters and counterprotesters in Portland or not.

“Portland police officers heard sounds of gunfire from the area of Southeast 3rd Avenue and Southwest Alder Street. They responded and located a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest,” the Portland police bureau said.

The violent demonstration came two days after Trump invoked Portland as a liberal city overrun with violence at his Republican National Convention as part of his “law and order” re-election campaign theme.

The man, who was killed in the shooting, was a member of The founder of Patriot Prayer, a right-wing group whose supporters have regularly clashed with left-wing protesters in Portland.

Police has issued a plea for videos, photos and eyewitness linked to the killing. The videos that have surfaced on the internet show pro-Trump rally and protesters clashing incessantly with the former firing paintball pellets at opponent.

Meanwhile, Democractic presedential nominee Joe Biden has called the violence "unacceptable", asking Donald Trump to stop "recklessly encouraging" it.

"I condemn violence of every kind by anyone, whether on the left or the right. And I challenge Donald Trump to do the same," Biden said in a statement, adding that "we must not become a country at war with ourselves."

"What does President Trump think will happen when he continues to insist on fanning the flames of hate and division in our society and using the politics of fear to whip up his supporters? He is recklessly encouraging violence," the former vice president added.
