One major blow comes for former United States President Donald Trump who has been banned from social media platform Twitter. While it has been some time to his ban, an official on Wednesday confirmed that the ban in permanent. An avid social media user, Trump had faced multiple restrictions on his account before it was banned. From posting blatant claims about covid-19 vaccine to discrediting Biden’s win, Trump has aggressively misused the micro-blogging site.
The former president’s permanent ban from Twitter is permanent, Twitter’s chief financial officer, Ned Segal, said during an interview on CNBC when he was asked whether Trump’s tweeting privileges could be restored if he runs for President or comes in power.
“The way our policies work, when you’re removed from the platform, you’re removed from the platform,” Segal said.
He added: “Whether you’re a commentator, you’re a CFO, or you are a former or current public official. Remember, our policies are designed to make sure that people are not inciting violence, and if anybody does that, we have to remove them from the service and our policies don’t allow people to come back.”
The development comes amid Trump’s impeachment trial that is currently taking place in the Senate. He has been accused of inciting insurrection with his inflammatory persuasion at a rally in Washington immediately before the US Capitol Hill violence took place on January 6.
