Turkey mine blast: Death toll rises to 41

A terrible accident has happened in Turkey. Here in a coal mine there has been a loud explosion due to flammable gases. The death toll in this blast is increasing rapidly. According to the latest information, the death toll in a coal mine explosion in northern Turkey has risen to 40 on Saturday. The blast took place at 6.45 pm on Friday at the state-run TTK Amasara Musesse Mudurlugu mine in the town of Amasara in the Black Sea coastal province of Bartin.

110 workers were working in the mine

It is being told that 110 workers were working in the mine at the time of the blast. The families of the victims gathered outside the mine in the cold overnight to get the news of the discovery of their loved ones. Home Minister Suleiman Soylu said on Saturday that 40 workers had died. 11 workers are injured and hospitalized while 58 people have been rescued safely. Nothing is known about the remaining one worker.

More than 12 workers trapped in the mine

Energy Minister Fateh Donmez said the rescue operation was almost complete. Earlier, he had told that there is a fire in the gallery of the mine, where more than 12 workers are trapped. He had said that preliminary investigation suggests that the explosion was caused by inflammable gases found in the coal mines.

Silal Kara (40), a laborer, said, “We saw a scary scene, it cannot be described, it is very sad. They are all my friends. They all had some dreams.”

300 hundred people were killed in 2014

Turkey’s disaster management agency said ambulances were standing at the scene and rescue teams were dispatched to the area. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is likely to visit Amasara on Saturday.

Energy Minister Fateh Darmaz said preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by flammable gases found in the coal mines.

Significantly, the country’s worst mine disaster occurred in 2014 when a total fire in a coal mine in Soma city killed 301 people.
