UK Envoy Visit PoK

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has lodged a robust protest against the British High Commissioner's visit to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), emphasizing that any infringement on India's territorial integrity is unacceptable. The MEA reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir has always been an integral part of the country.

Serious Note Taken on the "Highly Objectionable" Visit

India expressed serious concern over the "highly objectionable" visit of British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, accompanied by a UK Foreign Office official, to PoK on January 10, 2024. The MEA underlined that such actions, infringing on India's sovereignty, are not acceptable.

Strong Protest Lodged by Foreign Secretary with British High Commissioner

The Foreign Secretary of India has lodged a strong protest with the British High Commissioner in India regarding the infringement, making it clear that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are, and will always remain, integral parts of India.

The visit by Jane Marriott to Mirpur in PoK sparked diplomatic tensions, with India condemning the move and stressing the significance of respecting the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In October last year, India had raised similar concerns over the visit of the US Ambassador to Islamabad, Donald Blome, to Gilgit-Baltistan in PoK. The MEA had called on the global community to respect India's sovereignty, emphasizing that PoK belongs to India. The US ambassador had previously visited PoK in 2022.
