Ukraine Russia War: Ukraine Forces Move in the East After Breaching Russian Defences in the South

Ukraine Russia War: Russian defences in the south of the country have been breached by Ukrainian forces as they swiftly expand their offensive in the east, taking back more land in Moscow-annexed regions and endangering Russian troops’ supply routes.
Ukrainian forces recovered three villages on Monday in an advance along the vital Dnipro River, marking their biggest success in the south since the start of the conflict, according to Ukrainian officials and a Russian-installed authority in the region.

Although Moscow has attempted to heighten the stakes by annexing land, demanding mobilisation, and threatening nuclear retribution, the southern breakthrough matches recent Ukrainian successes in the east.

According to Reuters, columns of Ukrainian military vehicles were moving on Monday to fortify the rail hub Lyman, which had been retaken over the weekend and served as a staging area for an invasion of the Donbas region.

Without going into further detail, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy claimed that the Ukrainian army had taken back towns in a number of places.

“In many areas, new population centres have been freed. Several frontal sectors are seeing intense combat, “According to Zelenskiy’s video speech.
According to Vladimir Saldi, the Russian-installed leader in the seized portions of Ukraine’s Kherson province, Ukrainian troops have retaken the town of Dudchany on the west bank of the Dnipro River, which divides the nation in half.

There are settlements that the Ukrainian military has taken control of, Saldi stated.

The front has advanced the fastest in the south so far of the battle at Dudchany, which is around 30 kilometres (20 miles) south of where it was before Monday’s breakthrough. Since the first few weeks of the invasion, Russian forces had been holed up in well fortified positions along a largely stationary front line.

Although Kyiv has not yet provided a comprehensive account of the events, Ukrainian military and regional officials have disclosed some information.

According to a video published by the Defense Ministry, members of the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of Ukraine flew the national flag at Myrolyubivka, a settlement situated between the former front and the Dnipro.

Serhiy Khlan, a councillor for the Kherson region, also named four other settlements that had been taken back person where Ukrainian military had been spotted.

It indicates that our armed troops are advancing forcefully along the Dnipro River’s banks toward Beryslav, he explained.

The developments could not be independently verified by Reuters.

“Ability to attack”

The southern offensive aims to cut off supplies to up to 25,000 Russian forces stationed on the west bank of the Dnipro. The main bridges over the river have already been damaged by Ukraine, forcing Russian forces to use temporary bridges.

A significant downstream advance could completely shut them off.

Oleh Zhdanov, a military analyst based in Kyiv, stated that “the fact that we have broken through the front indicates that… the Russian army has already lost the ability to attack, and today or tomorrow it may lose the ability to defend.”

According to Celeste Wallander, a senior Pentagon official, Ukraine appears to be on track to accomplish several of its battlefield goals, allowing Kyiv “a much better defensive position to ride out what undoubtedly will be a tamping down of the heated fighting during the winter.”

Ukrainian forces have quickly taken control of Russian supply routes since the beginning of September, cutting off larger Russian forces and forcing them to flee.

Ukraine retook Lyman, the key Russian stronghold in the north of Donetsk province, just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared the provinces of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia to be Russian territory forever during a concert on Moscow’s Red Square on Friday.

That has made it possible for it to push well into the province of Luhansk, endangering the supply lines to the area Moscow took in some of the deadliest battles of the war in June and July.
On previously triumphant state media, where talkshow hosts have begun acknowledging setbacks and looking for scapegoats, the attitude has changed due to Russia’s waning fortunes.

“There will be a day when things won’t be simple for us. Right now, we shouldn’t anticipate receiving positive news “said the most well-known state TV presenter, Vladimir Solovyov.

The commander of Russia’s western military sector, which borders Ukraine, was the most recent high-ranking officer to be removed as a result of the defeats, according to Russian media on Monday.
