UNSC lists LeT deputy chief Abdul Rehman Makki as global terrorist

Abdul Rehman Makki: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday branded Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist under its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee. Makki is the brother-in-law of LeT chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed. The UNSC said Makki is the deputy chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba aka Jamaat-ud-Dawa and head of political affairs wing of both the Pakistan-based terrorist groups.

India slammed China in 2022

Earlier, India and the US had designated Makki Abdul Rehman as a terrorist under their domestic laws. India, in June last year, had slammed China after it blocked the proposal to list Makki under the Sanctions Committee.

Abdul Rehman Makki and many LeT/JUD operatives have been involved in raising funds, recruiting and radicalizing youth to violence and planning attacks in India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The ‘global terrorist’ has also served as head of LeT’s foreign relations department and member of Shura (governing body).

Makki behind attacks in India

LeT is responsible had a hand in several attacks in India. Some of them are:

Red Fort attack: Six LeT terrorists stormed the Red Fort on December 22, 2000, and opened indiscriminate fire on the security forces.

Rampur attack: Five LeT terrorists attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur on January 1, 2008. Eight people were killed.

26/11 Mumbai attacks (26-28 November 2008): In this horrific attack, ten terrorists from Pakistan entered Mumbai via the Arabian Sea with pre-decided targets. Ajmal Kasab was caught alive while the rest were killed.

Karan Nagar, Srinagar attack (12-13 February 2018): LeT Fidayeen (suicide squad) attacked the CRPF camp at the Karan Nagar in Srinagar killing one CRPF trooper.

Baramulla attack (30 May 2018): Three civilians were shot dead by LeT militants.

Srinagar attack (14 June 2018): Senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari and his two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) were shot by LeT terrorists.

Gurez/ Bandipora attack (7 August 2018): Four Army soldiers including a Major were killed as the Army foiled a major infiltration bid by heavily armed LeT militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez Sector of Bandipora District, Jammu and Kashmir.
