West Asia expert Waiel Awwad has strongly criticized recent actions taken by the United States against Iran, emphasizing Iran’s resilience as an ancient civilization that will not bow to external pressure.

Awwad Statement

Speaking from Delhi, Awwad stated, “Iran is a civilisation and Iran will not succumb to the pressure of the United States.” He further described the US move as “a very provocative step taken by an American president who is supposed to be leading this world to avoid wars.”

Awwad cautioned that any further aggression could destabilize not just Iran, but the broader West Asian region, which is already grappling with multiple crises—from the Gaza conflict to Syria’s ongoing instability. He also noted that the global energy markets and trade corridors could be affected if tensions spiral into open confrontation.

Warning

“The consequences of such reckless foreign policy decisions won’t be limited to one country. We’re looking at the possibility of a regional blowback with global implications,” Awwad warned.

Call for Diplomacy Over Conflict

Calling for immediate restraint and dialogue, Awwad urged global powers to prioritize diplomacy over military pressure. He emphasized that the path to peace in the region lies in mutual respect, non-intervention, and adherence to international norms, not in coercion or unilateral actions.

The statement has added to the chorus of international voices expressing concern over the escalating rhetoric and the growing risk of military confrontation in the Gulf and beyond.

Highlighting the legitimacy of Iran’s potential response, Awwad said, “There will be retaliation from the Iranian side because they have the full right and the legitimacy, as per the UN Charter and international law, to retaliate against any country attacking a sovereign nation.”

His remarks come amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, raising concerns over the possibility of further conflict in the region.
