US Attacks Venezuela: Early on January 3, 2026, Caracas, the city of Venezuela, was shaken by explosions and loud noises. People reported power outages, aeroplanes flying low and blasts as tensions with the United States rose. After months of bad relations between Washington and Caracas, the U.S. was accused by Venezuelan officials of attacking military and civilian sites.
The Venezuelan government called what happened “military aggression.” They declared a national state of emergency, called on citizens to oppose foreign intervention, and put their defence forces into action. Explosions were also heard in Miranda, La Guaira, and Aragua, which are all states next to the one being talked about.
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said that there was a “large-scale strike” by American forces. He also said on social media and other platforms that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been captured and flown out of the country after the operation.
Why is Maduro the target of the U.S.?
US Attacks Venezuela: For a long time, the Trump administration has said that Maduro’s government is corrupt, undemocratic, and connected to drug crime. As part of a larger operation that critics say doesn’t have a clear legal basis, Washington has banned many Venezuelan officials from the country and targeted ships and routes they think are being used for drug smuggling in the Caribbean and Pacific.
For his part, Maduro says that the U.S. wants to take over Venezuela’s huge oil and material wealth and that they are trying to change the government while pretending to care about drugs and democracy. The situation is still very changeable, and as neighbouring countries urge calm and quick conversation, the world’s political pressure is rising.
