The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran is already facing serious challenges, just hours after it was announced. What was meant to be a step toward de-escalation has quickly turned uncertain due to fresh violence in the region.

Ceasefire Under Immediate Pressure

The US-Iran ceasefire, reportedly agreed as a temporary two-week arrangement, aimed to halt hostilities and ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. However, the situation changed dramatically when Israel launched a massive strike targeting Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

Why Lebanon Has Become the Flashpoint?

A key reason for the instability is that Lebanon was not clearly included in the ceasefire terms. While the US and Iran agreed to pause direct conflict, Israel continues its operations against Hezbollah.Iran has strongly reacted to these strikes, stating that aggression toward Lebanon is seen as aggression toward itself.

Strait of Hormuz: A Global Concern

One of the most critical elements of the ceasefire was the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route. Nearly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes through this narrow waterway, making it extremely important for global energy stability. Despite initial agreements, Iran has once again restricted or halted movement in the strait following the Lebanon strikes.

This move has raised fears of:

  • Rising global oil prices
  • Disruption in energy supply
  • Increased geopolitical tensions

Confusion and Contradictions in the Deal

Another major issue is the lack of clarity in the ceasefire agreement itself. Different parties have offered varying interpretations of the deal, especially regarding:

  • Inclusion of Lebanon
  • Terms related to nuclear activity
  • Conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz

Global Reactions and Diplomatic Efforts

Several countries have welcomed the ceasefire as a positive step but have also expressed concern over the ongoing violence. European leaders have urged all parties to respect the agreement and work toward a long-term solution.
